Cecilia Caballero

As a teaching artist, my goal is to create more communal spaces of storytelling and social justice for BIPOC writers. For my Herstory project, I plan to offer a series of creative writing workshops at East Los Angeles College, located near my community of Boyle Heights, California. I will work with first-generation, working-class students of color, with a special emphasis on beginning writers, to explore both institutional and interpersonal forms of injustice but also hope and healing. As a Herstory fellow, I look forward to community-building through storytelling and expanding my skillset by learning about empathy-based pedagogy.
