RN, PhD, CNE, Former Assistant Chair, Department of Nursing, St. Joseph's College
Laurel Janssen Breen is recently retired from nursing education. From 1998-2016, she built an academic career at St. Joseph’s College, eventually serving as the Assistant Chair of the Nursing Department. Her clinical work and qualitative research have focused on the development and maintenance of academic- practice partnerships, bringing together nursing students and communities in need, to address real-life population- level health issues. In a long- term sustainable partnership with the Asthma Coalition of Long Island, nursing faculty from several Long Island colleges and universities continue to successfully partner across campus boundaries, to reduce the burden of childhood asthma on Long Island. Her Masters and Doctorate from New York University, combined with Nurse Educator Certification supported her work with undergraduate students as they learned to assess the health needs of families and communities and her mentoring of graduate nursing students as they prepared to become the next generation of nurse educators.
